Entitlements and offline licence semantics (ADR-0006)

Every package is sellable with an entitlement per package

Each package can be sold, granted or withheld through one signed entitlement; commerce is expressed only as entitlements

Entitlement file per package, signed and verified locally

A signed entitlement file names the package, element closure, kind of licence and dates; the app verifies it offline with embedded keys

Local authority only for offline use

The local entitlement file decides only what works offline; nothing online is decided by the device

Online features are decided by the company host

The company host re-checks the entitlement for each online feature; editing the local app or file cannot unlock an online feature

Online entitlement grants are short-lived and expire

Grants for online features carry a short expiry and are renewed by the host while the entitlement stands

Online entitlement grant renewal fails soft

If a grant cannot be renewed the online feature pauses with a plain message; offline selling and data access never stop

Offline licence semantics: free licence

A free licence (kind free) keeps working offline forever on the versions it was entitled to, with no expiry check and no payment state inside the document

Offline licence semantics: updates_until (reserved, enforcement open)

Kept only as a mechanism for the open question of what a lapsed fee may stop: builds released up to the end date may be installed; the installed build and the data always keep working

Entitlement revocation list

A signed revocation list can withdraw a stolen or refunded entitlement; it is applied when seen and never locks sales on its own

An entitlement file can be imported from a file with no network; importing twice changes nothing

Pricing and orders are deferred

Pricing tables and the order flow are not built yet; the entitlement per package is the only commerce hook they will attach to
